An immigration lawyer in Bangkok is the person to call when an immigration decision has gone against you, or is about to. Contested immigration matters can include: a refused entry or extension, a revoked permission to stay, an overstay that has come to an official's attention, detention pending deportation, and disputes about Thai nationality. The general rules and appeal deadlines sit on our page covering immigration lawyers across Thailand. This page covers where those matters play out in Bangkok.
Routine filings sit on the other side of the line. Extensions, 90 day reports, re-entry permits and visa-type changes are administrative applications, and a visa agency can help with those filings. Several firms on this page do both kinds of work, so ask which kind your matter is. If an application has already been refused, the page on appealing a visa refusal explains the routes the Immigration Act provides.
Immigration Division 1, Chaeng Watthana. The Division's contact page places it in Building B, South Zone, of the Government Complex on Chaeng Wattana Road in Lak Si, and states that it is responsible for the Bangkok area only, except airports and Bangkok ports. The services it lists include issuing and changing visa types, re-entry permits, permanent residence matters, alien registration, visa extensions, 90 day notifications (TM.47) and TM.30 residence notifications. The same page sends some groups elsewhere: BOI, Smart visa and LTR visa holders to the One Stop Service at One Bangkok, and visa-exempt and visa-on-arrival visitors to Counter K at IT Square Laksi Plaza.
Division 1's FAQ directs extensions and visa changes to the immigration office of the province where you reside. For a Bangkok resident, that makes Chaeng Watthana the office whose decision a lawyer is usually examining when an extension is refused or permission to stay is revoked.
The airports and ports. Because Division 1 excludes Bangkok's airports and ports, a refusal of entry on arrival is a separate track. Under Section 22 of the Immigration Act, where an appeal is permitted, an appeal against an order to leave the Kingdom as an excluded person is submitted to the competent official within forty-eight hours of receiving the order, and deportation is delayed while the Minister decides. Section 22 excludes appeals under Section 12(1) and 12(10). That window is why a firm's out-of-hours cover matters.
Immigration Detention Center, Suan Phlu. The Immigration Bureau's detention centre is at 507 Soi Suan Phlu, Thung Maha Mek, Sathon. Section 54 of the Act lets the official, once a deportation order is made, either require the person to stay at a set place or report on set dates with security or bond, or detain them, with the cost of detention charged to the detainee. Visiting arrangements change, so a firm or the centre itself is the reliable source for current rules.

The Bangkok list mixes full-service firms, where immigration is one practice among many, with smaller firms that name immigration and residence work as a focus. Neither is automatically the better fit. What matters is how much contested work the firm actually handles.
Each card shows the languages the firm works in, whether the first consultation is free or paid, and hourly rates where the firm publishes them. Language counts twice in immigration matters: you need to be understood, and the lawyer needs to work in Thai with officials and Thai-language documents. Questions worth asking before you engage anyone:
Bring documents that show your full immigration history: your passport and any previous passport carrying relevant stamps, the refusal or order you received with the date and time you received it, receipts from recent applications, and your 90 day report and TM.30 records.
For an overstay, note the date of your last entry and the date your permitted stay ended. The re-entry ban depends on the length of the overstay and on whether the person surrendered or was arrested, and the published ban schedule sets out both tracks. Our page on overstay and deportation explains how they differ. Staying without or beyond permission is also an offence under Section 81 of the Act, punishable by imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.
For a nationality question, Section 57 presumes a person is an alien until Thai nationality is proven, and someone dissatisfied with the official's decision may apply to the Court. The page on Thai citizenship disputes covers that route.
This page is general information about immigration matters in Bangkok, not legal advice. For a specific situation, speak with a qualified lawyer.
